Why I Think The Subject of History in School Should Be Replaced With the Present

Throughout many of our lives in school, history is one of the major subjects taught. I am currently in 7th grade, and we learn about many countries and their history. The question is, why is this so important to learn?

Some people may argue that to understand all the conflicts or actions between countries or people today, you need to know their history. I agree with this, but I do think teachers should focus even more on what is currently going on in our world or what might happen in the future.

Focusing on what is going on in our world right now will help students understand the relationship between countries. For example, with the Russia and Ukraine conflict, I didn’t know how it started until a few weeks ago. It’s really important to keep kids up to date on our current world.

Many people may also argue that kids should listen to or read the news, but lots of students do not have enough time in the mornings or afternoons for this. I myself have many extracurriculars in the afternoon, meaning there is not a lot of time left for the news.

Educating kids about the present will make sure they know the issues in our world, and when they grow up, they could help by trying to fix those issues. By replacing history with the present, we are hoping for better-educated people and a better world in the future.
